When
using using Eclipse Timer™ in the field during
an eclipse, obviously the mobile version on a handheld computer is the most
convenient.
It can be fastened to your telescope tripod, in close proximity
to where you will be working and you will be able to hear the timing during the
eclipse and pace your photography appropriately.
In the
same manner, it can be fastened to your camera tripod.
All
of us know how bad the speaker sound and the speaker volume is on handheld
devices. During totality there will be a great deal of crowd excitement
and noise and it will be difficult to hear Eclipse Timer™
talk to you. If you are not going to mount your handheld device close to
your face on a tripod, we suggest that you output the sound channels of your
handheld to a pair of external battery powered speakers. Radio Shack has a
few models to choose from. Pictured is a set of Radio Shack 40-1407
speakers that work with 4 "C" batteries and sound very good. The output is
via a stereo mini-plug.
Another
way to hear the timing better is with a set of headphones. This would
really allow you to concentrate on the timing, however, it might limit your
ability to experience the crowd reaction as totality occurs. Part of the
enjoyment of a total eclipse is listening to your fellow eclipse chasers enjoy
the event.
